Don't Forget Peace

In his book, The American Soul: Rediscovering the Wisdom of the Founders (2002), Jacob Needleman tells a creation story of the Iroquois tribe of Native Americans. In that story, the creator called, He Grasps the Sky With Both Hands, spoke to the human beings:

All of you have an equal right to this which I have ordained. So then it will affect us all alike in that we will all have peace within our minds. Do not ever forget this, that in the days and nights to come a grave thing will come to pass if ever you forget peace. You will not continue to live if you forget peace. Nor will your children live. You must care and attend to one another as to your minds on this earth present here.
